I have climbed, I will climb, WILL YOU!

We are less than 1 month away from the 3rd annual Richmond 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at the SunTrust building in Richmond Va. This will be my third climb, and while I do not know the numbers of climbers that are signed up I doubt it is sold out at this point.

The climb in Charlotte NC sold out in 30 minuets! That’s impressive and a big shout out to all of the guys I know in Charlotte, those guys “get It”.

Sadly some climbs are losing steam, the Fire Rescue International Conference in Chicago only had 50 climbers sign up! It would not have even been that many if a brother from Tennessee named Andrew Catron started a campaign to climb in the place of people if they would just make the $25 dollar donation.  He also runs the blog “Model City Firefighter” here are some links to his stair climb stories

Andrew ended up getting an additional 17 registrations added to the climb and then he carried all the names himself. I have met Andrew at FDIC in 2012 and saw him again this year. He is usually hanging out with the Fire Critic, and Capt. Wines and as usual they are always a good time, and they get the fire service and brotherhood in ways most of us only dream about.

I have climbed two times here in Richmond. I have not climbed anywhere else. Not that the other climbs are not good they are OUTSTANDING. I just feel a lot of pride to climb in my hometown, around firefighters I have known my whole life. Here is the write ups about the two climbs I have done

I will climb again this year, the big question out there is WHY HAVE YOU NOT CLIMBED!!!!!

It is not about ego, it is not a race, it is about brotherhood, it is about honor, it is about remembering the 343 brothers of the FDNY that were murdered on 9/11. The money for the climb also goes to the FDNY Families fund that supports counseling of survivors, and family members of the FDNY. This unit is funded purely on donations, donations that partly come from these climbs.

You can sign up for the Richmond Climb here http://www.regonline.com/builder/site/Default.aspx?EventID=1261530

If you feel that you are not in shape enough to climb contact me and I will come train with you!

Or if you feel you can not make the climb, or just will not be in town, sign up anyway let me know and I will carry your firefighter. We want NO firefighter left behind, or unsponsored.

You can contact me on twitter @averagejakeff or by email [email protected]

SO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!!!!! Sign up TODAY! Lets get this climb sold out, and let’s make sure that none of our brothers are left behind. We all promised to Never Forget the sacrifices made by the 343, well this is the best way to actually honor them by going through what they did. A lot of people talk about brotherhood, this is actually walking the walk of brotherhood.

As usual thanks for reading, spread the word, and STAY SAFE!
