It feels like forever since I have posted and if you look at the feed….well it has been. I have been getting the “Do you still blog?” question a lot lately so I figured I should address it.
Short answer is YES!
Long answer is Yes, I am still blogging I have been focusing more on twitter lately but I do still blog, and plan on keeping this going for some time to come. However I am not someone who just writes for the sake of writing. I am not one of these people who have to write something or they feel they are losing connection with their “fans” or followers. Simply put I only write when I have something to say, if I have nothing to say then forcing words on paper has never worked for me. That is why writing for a magazine, or other site has never panned out for me. I can not write something on a deadline that is just not how my creative process works. I am much more fluid, if I feel inspired or passionate I blog, write, or make a YouTube video of it to share my thoughts. If not, then I do not force it because what usually comes out of forced writing is absolute garbage. To be honest I see a lot of forced writing in fire service blogs and it is in fact absolute garbage that is either click bait, self serving or both. That is not what I want to be, or how I want to be perceived.
As far as an update things are great I was moved from being an Engine company officer to a Special Service company officer (specifically a Heavy Squad) which has created a whole new set of challenges, and the dusting off of a skill set I have not used in awhile. I also participated in the Captains promotional process and am waiting to hear how all of that shakes out. Now the big news…..
After a 1 year break I WILL BE ATTENDING FDIC 2017!!!!!!!
While this will be different than my previous trips, I am excited to be heading back to the best fire service conference on the planet! I will be in INDY arriving Tuesday and departing Friday evening. In the past I have done the 5k and the stair climb, but in order to maximize my time in the class room and on the floor I will not be participating in those this time around. I will also be around town at social events. Also like on previous trips I will not be teaching a program, however my wife Karen will be teaching her program “Preplanning For The EMS Provider” If you respond to EMS calls, or have the chance to have a large scale incident then this is the class for YOU!
So that is whats been going on with me and what will be going on in the future! Be sure to follow me on twitter @Averagejakeff and on YouTube Averagejakeff
As usual thanks for reading, spread the word, and STAY SAFE!
